What is an Artist?
At The Makers Table, gathering is part of the creative process. In a shared experience we find inspiration and collaborators for our work, which is what inspired “What is an Artist?” This dinner brings together people who make across mediums, disciplines, identities, and seasons of life, all to explore what it actually means to call yourself an artist in 2026.
We don’t think of it as a label to earn, but as a way of moving through the world.
Together we will explore:
Is art about output, attention, impact, or something else entirely?
Is it a profession, a practice, a posture, a way of noticing?
Who gets to claim the title?
Who has been told it doesn’t belong to them?
This dinner seeks the Maker who is making full-time, part-time, in secret, in transition, in doubt, or in deep knowing. A space one who feels shaped by creativity, even if they don’t always feel confident naming it.
You don’t have to be certain you’re an artist to come, but you have to be open to the idea that you just might be one after all.
